Located on the shores of the breathtaking West Lake in Hangzhou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, The Silk Lakehouse is the newest boutique hotel of the Shangri-La Group. Surrounded by an untouched natural skyline and distant mountains, the setting offers a peaceful contrast to the vibrant interiors within.

For The Silk Lakehouse, Studio Gert Voorjans designed custom rooms and spaces that felt intimate, unique, and tailored to each guest. Each space has been imagined with a distinctive blend of colour, character and craft, always grounded with a strong sense of place.

For Gert, understanding the local context, its culture, symbols and scenery, is key to creating interiors that truly belong. This sensitivity to Chinese heritage and visual storytelling is woven throughout the entire project.
