Frederik Schnieders (45), graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Here his predilection for portrait and figuration was ignited by figure drawing. This opened the doors to his search and thorough study through oil paint as a medium.
In his paintings, Schnieders seeks the balance between color and technique with great respect for the Impressionists and the Renaissance painters.
He chooses his subjects from the immediate environment, the internet, video stills and owns a large collection of magazines that serve as an archive.There is a constant dialogue with the painting itself, in which the figures and persons portrayed lead a life of their own and give the viewer a thoughtful and pure view.
The ultra honest and dimensional work is made up of many layers that create a lush oasis of color.
The artist now mainly wants to emphasize the further study of his technique and translate it onto larger formats.
