'La Vénus aux Mouettes' painting by the Belgian painter Victor Abeloos (1881-1965). Belgium, first half of the 20th century. Oil on canvas. Signed.

Victor Abeloos (1881-1965) was a Belgian painter. He started his career as a student at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels with Isidore Verheyden (1846-1905) and Alfred Cluysenaer (1837-1902). Afterwards, Abeloos started painting portraits, nudes, still lives, animals, landscapes, seascapes, mythological scenes, and various socially conscious topics. Abeloos exhibited at the Royal Gallery (1922) and in the Le Salonnet gallery (1925), both located in Brussels. Some of his work can be found in the Museum Charlier and the Museum of Ixelles. Around 1930, Abeloos founded a studio together with Emile Vauthier (1894-1946) at 16 Rue Godecharles in Ixelles. This is where he moved permanently after his marriage in 1952. Abeloos died in 1965.
